Says government running from discussions, evading accountability

Srinagar Dec 22 (KNS): The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Friday condemned mass suspension of MPs including that of JKNC MPs Dr Farooq Abdullah, Hasnain Masoodi terming the measures as ruling party's decision for accountability and parliamentary democracy.

Condemning the mass suspension in the strongest possible terms, party's State Spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar said, “It is a clear case of the government running away from accountability and evading discussions on various critical bills tabled in the parliament. Clearly the suspensions have been done for the government to hide its failures. It is the right of every elected public representative to ask questions. If they have been elected by the people and sent to the Parliament, they speak representing the aspirations and expectations of the people. We condemn the suspensions and demand its revocation forthwith. Such steps affect the democratic standing of the nation globally.”

“Such undemocratic ways of silencing the opposition won't work,” Imran said adding, “Our party MPs will continue to raise public issues forcefully."(KNS)
