Muharram imparts lesson of rendering sacrifice,  tolerance: Imran Ansari

Srinagar, Aug 18 (KNS): Commemorating the pious occasion of Youme Ashura, president All J&K Shia Association and former cabinet minister Molvi Imran Reza Ansari has said that Muharram imparts the lesson of rendering sacrifice, tolerance and selflessness.

As the first month of the (Islamic )Hijri calendar, Muharram has religious significance too. The month remarks the martyrdom of Grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), Imam Hussain (AS) and 72 members of his family and companions.

The incident is being remembered as Yaum-e-Ashura to mourn the Martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS) and his family.

The third Imam of the Shia community, Imam Hussain (AS) was martyred during the battle of Karbala (in present-day Iraq), by the soldiers of the Yazid in 680 AD.  The Martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS) is seen as a sign of the continuous struggle against oppression.

Molvi Imran said that Muharram also symbolises the spirit of sacrifice which is placed above all the virtues of mankind and commemorates the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS), who sacrificed his life at the altar of true belief.

Ansari also said that remembrance of goodness and sacrifice is the true meaning of Muharram. “Let us emulate the spirit of Muharram embodying humanism which is central to Islam.”

He also appealed to the general public and Muharram Mourners, in particular, to observe the occasion by adopting proper SOP’s to fight against COVID-19 third wave and save precious lives in this pandemic. (KNS)
