More than 60 Lakh youth in Kashmir targeted for Sports Engagement: Sarmad Hafeez

Srinagar, Aug 29 (KNS): Surpassing last year's goal, the government aims to engage more than 60 lakhs youth in sports activities across all corners of Kashmir this year, the ongoing government efforts are evident in the active participation of youth in sports activities across every part of the region, said Secretary Youth Service and Sports, Sarmad Hafeez.

Responding to the visionary directives of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Secretary Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta, Kashmir's higher education departments, alongside colleges and universities, have embarked on a proactive journey to infuse sports into the educational fabric of the Kashmir valley.

The event, held with the aim of seamlessly integrating sports into the educational ethos, marks a notable leap in nurturing physical fitness and a sense of camaraderie among students in Ganderbal. Secretary Youth Service and Sports, Sarmad Hafeez, enthusiastically lauded the initiative, recognizing its potential to carve a path for organizing national and international sports events in the Kashmir.

"Today's collaboration between our esteemed higher education institutions and the realm of sports is a testament to its promise. The resounding participation of 37 colleges underscores the significance of this initiative. By immersing ourselves in sports at this level, we are not only promoting physical well-being but also instilling values of teamwork, discipline, and healthy competition among our youth," asserted Secretary Sarmad Hafeez.

The event, he said hosted at the Physical Education College, Gadoora, Ganderbal, witnessed students from diverse colleges engage in a medley of sports activities, fostering an environment of wholesome competition and camaraderie. This confluence signifies a comprehensive approach to education that transcends traditional boundaries.

He said that this dedicated stride to incorporate sports as an integral facet of education aligns seamlessly with the broader vision of the administration to position Kashmir as a prominent epicenter for national and international sports events. 

He further said that the proactive stance of the Lieutenant Governor and Chief Secretary is poised to culminate in the emergence of Kashmir as a dynamic sports destination on the global arena.(KNS)
