MMU urges religious preachers to play role in tackling rising crimes in Kashmir

Srinagar, March 22 (KNS): Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulema (MMU) Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday organised an important meeting at its head office Mirwaiz Manzil Rajouri Kadal on the occasion of ‘Istiqbaal-e-Ramadan’ which was presided over by the renowned Islamic scholar of the valley, Mufti Nazir Ahmad Qasmi. 


According to a statement, the speakers while welcoming the arrival of Ramadan stressed on its sanctity, respect and fulfillment of rights of this holy month, and appealed to all Imams, scholars and preachers of Jammu & Kashmir to focus on the purification of the soul and reforming of society during the entire month of Ramadan.

They said Kashmiri society today faces serious problems like rising crime rates, moral turpitude, drug addiction, domestic violence, suicide incidents, and youth waywardness.

“To tackle these, a strong awareness campaign should be conducted by informing the people through religious and reformative meetings so that the land of saints and scholars can be saved from becoming a breeding ground for new evils, myths and crimes,” the statement reads. 

It reads the speakers unanimously expressed their deep concern and resentment over detention Mirwaiz Dr Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq.

They appealed to the authorities that the restrictions imposed on him should be removed immediately in view of the holy month of Ramadan.

Among the scholars, mashaikhs and personalities who addressed the meeting were Dr Muhammad Samir Shafi Siddiqui (Khatib and Imam Aishmuqam), Acting President of Sharia Shia Association of Jammu and Kashmir, Syed Al-Mujtaba Abbas Al-Mosvi Al-Safavi, Dr Kamal Farooqi, the preacher and imam of the Aasaar Sharif Dargah Hazratbal, Moulana Khursheed Ahmed Qanungo, the president of Anjuman Himayat-ul-Islam, Mufti Aijaz-ul-Hassan Banday, Moderator of Darul Uloom Sabeel-ul-Huda, Khatib and Imam of Jama Masjid Qazigund, Pirzada Moulvi Abdul Hameed, Moulana Ali Akbar, Principal of Anjuman Tabligh-ul-Islam, Hafiz Abdul Rahman Ashrafi, President of Anjuman Ulema Wa Aima Islamabad, Qazigund, Syed Muhammad Yusuf, the representative of Moulana Masroor Abbas Ansari of Ittehad Muslimeen Jammu and Kashmir, Moulana Abdul Qayyum, the representative of Moulana Ghulam Rasool Hami of Karwan-e-Islami, Mufti Mudassir Qadri, President of Karwan-e- Khatam-e-Nabuwat International, Engineer Mohammad Afaq Chishti of Khawaja Gharib Nawaz Trust, Maulana Muhammad Waris Bukhari, President of Markazi Aima Wa Masaajid, Moulana Sheikh Ghulam Muhammad, President of Jamiat Anwar-ul-Islam, Mufti Ghulam Rasool Samoon of Jama Masjid Srinagar, President of Handicapped Rahat Centre Imran Shafi Baig, Moulvi Muhammad Rafiq Zargar, Moulana Altaf, and Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulema Secretary Moulana M S Rehman Shams, and others.

The meeting was also attended by prominent scholars, imams and khateebs from all over Kashmir and from every district, besides representatives of the business community, journalists, and respected members of civil society, lawyers and intellectuals. (KNS)
