MLAs accuse Bandipora Admin of absence from Wular Lake conservation Event; DC Says “Not Invited”

Srinagar, 10 Nov (KNS): Local MLAs have expressed disappointment over the absence of the Bandipora District Administration at a conservation event aimed at addressing the deteriorating condition of Wular Lake.

The event, organized by the fishermen's union, sought to underscore the urgent need for the lake’s preservation. However, district officials have stated they had no prior knowledge of the gathering, asserting that no formal invitation was extended.

Congress MLA Nizamuddin Bhat (Bandipora), along with National Conference MLAs Hilal Akbar Lone (Sonawari), Irshad Rasool Kar (Sopore), and Irfan Hafeez Lone (Kreeri), attended the event held in Zurimanz village on the banks of Wular Lake.

The absence of district officials sparked concerns among community stakeholders present, who voiced disappointment over the administration's non-attendance.

“The absence of district officials, despite invitations, shows disregard for public welfare.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelWe need an explanation for their non-attendance,” the MLAs said, underscoring the importance of administrative involvement in addressing the community and environmental issues.

In response, Bandipora’s Deputy Commissioner, Manzoor Ahmad Qadri, denied the allegations, stating, “The District Administration was neither informed nor invited. This MLA organized the event in his private capacity.”

The District Administration later issued a statement clarifying that no formal invitation or communication was received from the event organizers.

“The District Administration remains fully committed to supporting such initiatives and encourages participation in events benefiting the community and environment. However, in the absence of formal intimation, officials could not attend the event,” read the statement from the administration. (KNS)
