SSP Srinagar warns drug peddlers to either stop this business or leave city, as none will be spared

Srinagar, Mar 02 (KNS): Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Aijaz Asad on Tuesday said that Mission Wapsi is about bringing back drug abuse victims to normal life.

Talking to reporters here, Asad said that on the directions of LG Manoj Sinha, a major drive under Mission Wapsi has been launched against drug abuse in Srinagar district and it is about bringing back those youth who have gone astray towards self, career and family.

“The administration is following two point-approach for implementation of Mission Wapsi as we believe that it is the responsibility of administration to bring youth on the right track,” he added.

Asad said that one method is enforcement and the other is rehabilitation of victims of drug abuse. “In this regard, legal actions have been taken against drug abusers, while rehabilitation centres have also been setup for these victims along with skill development schemes so that they can start a new life.”

Meanwhile, SSP Srinagar Rakesh Balwal said that till now 41 FIR’s have been lodged against drug peddlers, while few have also been booked under PSA.

“On February 28, around 21 persons were booked under PSA who were found involved in drug abuse after a raid by our teams. After interrogation of the arrested, more names came to fore in these cases. Further investigation into the case is still going,”.

He also said that drug peddlers and others who are involved in this evil, should either stop this business or leave the city, as none of them will be spared, he added.(KNS)
