Mirwaiz Umar Farooq completes 17 months of house arrest, Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid Srinagar presses for his release

Srinagar, Jan 05: Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid Srinagar strongly reacted against the continuous 17th months house detention of its president and Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq.
Anjuman said that the pulpit of the Jamia Masjid Srinagar – the centre of spiritual and religious awakening for Muslims in Kashmir – is silent for the last 17 months which constitute 75 Fridays; a statement issued to KNS reads.
The silence of the pulpit of the grand masjid which used to reverberate with the message of Qaal Allah Wa Qaala Rasool (SAW) has agonised the Muslims of Kashmir who are craving for this deeply spiritual and religious centre to resume its functioning with the presence of the Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir, the Anjuman said in a statement to "Kashmir News Service".
Strongly criticizing the administration, the Anjuman said that “keeping Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir under continuous and arbitrary house arrest is hurting the sentiments of hundreds of thousands of Muslims of the Valley who have a strong spiritual and emotional bond with the pulpit of Jamia Masjid and it’s unique delivery of Waaz-o-Tableegh by their beloved Mirwaiz.”

The Anjuman said that the functioning of most Masajids shrines, khanqahs, imambarahs and other religious centres is carrying on routinely , it is the central Jamia masjid srinagar which is being targeted by detaining the Mirwaiz who is central religious fugue of the valley, statement added.
“Due to his continued detention the social, religious and welfare activities associated with the institution of the Mirwaiz and carried out under his guidance are greatly suffering, “it said.
Ajman further said that the continuous detention of Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir is unacceptable not only to people but also to the fraternity of religious scholars here, adding that all the religious, social and educational organisations have time and again demanded his immediate release but unfortunately the administration remains unmoved.
The Anjuman once again demands the immediate release of the Mirwaiz Umar Farooq so that he, like his predecessors – resumes the responsibilities the institution of Mirwaiz enjoins upon him, statement said. (KNS).
