Mirwaiz not allowed to address Seerat Majlis at Sarai Bala: Anjuman Auqaf

Srinagar, Oct 21 (KNS): Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid Srinagar has expressed surprise and regret over the continuous house detention of its head Mirwaiz Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq, thereby disallowing him from performing his official duties.

The Anjuman in a statement said that Mirwaiz on the invitation of Idarah Gousia Sarai Bala was supposed to address a Seerat Majlis organised in connection with the Urs Mubarak of Hazrat Peeran-e-Peer Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jeelani (RA), but without giving any reasonable reason he was not allowed to go there.

The statement reads that such attitude of the state administration towards him, who has been under continuous house arrest since October 15, only hurts the sentiments of the Muslims.

“A large number of people had gathered in Aastan Ghousiya Sarai Bala to listen to his sermon, but they were deeply disappointed.”

It added that on the one hand, administration claims that the conditions are now  favourable in Kashmir but on the other hand it is imposing restrictions purely on religious programmes, which is beyond our understanding. (KNS)
