Militant associate arrested along with over Rs 9 lakh, narcotics in Srinagar: Police

Srinagar, Jan 10 (KNS): Srinagar police on Tuesday said it arrested a militant associate of LeT along with cash of over Rs 9 lakh and narcotics near Regal Chowk area of the city.


According to a statement, during a naka, a police party while conducting search of vehicles at Regal Chowk, intercepted a biker and upon checking, one small parcel containing some heroin like substance, Rs 9.90 lakh, 3 copies of letter pad of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) and 4 copies of code keys (matrix sheets) were recovered.

The statement reads on his personal search one mobile phone (I-Phone 11) & three ID Cards were also recovered. 

“On questioning he identified himself as Farzan Farooz S/O Farooz Ahmad Mir R/O Frestabal Pampore, Pulwama. He, however, failed to produce any legal justification with regard to possession of above mentioned items,” it reads.

It reads the recoveries made from him indicate larger conspiracy of LeT pushing drugs, proceeds of which are used to fund militant activities. 

“Accordingly case under FIR No. 02/2023 Under sections 8/21 NDPS Act & sections 13,18,39,40 of UAPA Act was registered in Police Station Kothibagh and investigation has been initiated,” it reads. (KNS)
