Kupwara, Aug 24(KNS): A micro-solar electrification project was inaugurated at Jabri village of Karnah in North kashmir's Kupwara district on Tuesday by Brigader SP Consul, Commander Shakti Vijay Brigade and Mr Sarang Gosavi, Founder and President Aseem Foundation while the entire village was the part of this momentous event.

Jabri is an isolated village located next close to the Line of Control. Although the village has electric supply, but it is erratic especially during winter months when the village is cut-off due to heavy snowfall and the residents face interruption in power supply regularly.

In order to alleviate the hardships faced by the awam of Jabri, Aseem Foundation in collaboration with the Indian Army has set up a micro solar electricity grid wherein in the initial phase twelve houses from the village were selected and have now been connected to a central grid which provides enough power to light bulbs and charge mobile phones during the night.

Mr. Sarang Gosavi of Aseem Foundation talking to kashmir news service(KNS), brought out that this is the first step towards making Jabri self-sufficient in terms of its power requirements as in the coming months plans are afoot  to cover the entire village under this project.

In addition a LAN/Wifi based arrangement was set up at Women Empowerment Centre (established and managed  by Indian Army) to enable students of Class 8 to attend online classes during lockdown.  A central server alongwith mobile phones and electronic tablets have been gifted to Government Middle School for the purpose.  The software has been developed by IIT students who are working as volunteers with Aseem Foundation.

It is highlighted that Aseem Foundation was established by Mr Sarang Gosavi at Pune in 2002 and has since then had an ever increasing footprint in border areas especially J&K and the North-East.

They have undertaken many initiatives especially in the field of education, social entrepreneurship and research & awareness in the far-flung and isolated places of the border areas.

This initiative by Aseem Foundation and the Indian Army will go a long way in improving the lives of residents of Jabri.(KNS).
