Make probe findings of distressing deaths of 2 Jammu youth public: JKAP

Alleviate exaggerated fears about COVID: Vijay Bakaya

Jammu, June 24 (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party (JKAP) senior leader and former legislator Vijay Bakaya on Wednesday demanded that findings of the probe ordered by the district magistrate Jammu into tragic death of two relatives of a COVID victim be made public.

In a statement issued to , Bakaya observed that the death of Vipin and Vimal Zaddoo, two relatives of a deceased COVID victim, speaks volumes about callousness exhibited by the administration in Jammu.

“JKAP demands that the findings of the enquiry ordered by the DM Jammu into the tragic death of Vipin and Vimal Zaddoo, be put in the public domain without any delay,” Bakaya stressed.

He said that the sad incident could have been avoided if the administration had not succumbed to pressure of people who did not allow the cremation of Shri B.L Zadoo a Covid victim and uncle of Vipin and Vimal, to take place at the traditional cremation ground.

“Instead of standing firm and getting the last rites of the deceased performed as per sacrosanct procedure, the administration heaped indignity on the deceased and his relatives by forcing them to wander around covered in heavy PPE's in the summer heat, in search of an improvised place for cremation,” the JKAP leader observed.

He said the two youth were subjected to push the ambulance for a short distance and reached the Tawi bank at Sidhra which exhausted and dehydrated them to the hilt. “These two youth were wrapped inside PPEs and they died without getting water to drink in a pathetic condition,” Bakaya lamented.

He said the incident highlights the callousness and inhumanity of the administration and the lack of awareness at large about how to react to a Covid infected person.

The JKAP leader asked why the attendants were not advised that masks and distancing would be enough protection for them, and why the dead were denied the dignity of a proper cremation.

He hoped that proper awareness campaigns would be conducted to remove exaggerated fears about Covid to prevent recurrence of such incidents. “The insensitivity and disrespect shown by the administration in this matter is highly abhorrent. People in Jammu are genuinely angry and expect the government to fix responsibility in a time bound manner,” he added (KNS)
