Bandipora, June 19 (KNS) : Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday hailed Nonagenarian of Bandipora for making straw paddy slippers and keeping this traditional art of Kashmir alive. 
 
Abdul samad hails from Ashtangoo village of North Kashmir's Bandipora district which has been making slippers of paddy straw from his early age when people in Kashmir were not able to afford the leather shoes and slippers.He has still been engaged in this just to keep this Kashmir's traditional art alive. 
 
Grandson of Abdul Samad, Jaffar Ahmad while talking to Kashmir News Service (KNS) said that it was a really proudful moment for his them when Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha talked about his father on such a big platform "Awam ki Awaz".
 
"When we listened Governor sb talking about my grandfather we were joyful as Governor sb hailed my dadu's work which he has been doing from such a long time besides keeping this tradition alive", jaffar said. 
 
Lt Governor in his talkshow "Awaam ki awaaz" said, Abdul Samad, a nonagenarian from the Kehnusa of Bandipora, deserves credit for keeping the traditional art of making paddy straw slippers (pulhor) alive. 
 
On account of their environmental, cultural and economic value, these products are silently finding takers in the present times, said the Lt Governor.(KNS)
