Local body polls in J&K after delimitation of wards: LG Manoj Sinha

Jammu, Nov 14(KNS): Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, on Tuesday said that local body polls will take place upon completion of the delimitation process for wards.

Addressing the conclusion of the tenure for councilors in Jammu Municipal Corporation, he praised their efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic and their commitment to municipal services.

He emphasized the crucial need for synergy between the public and elected representatives, urging a concentrated effort on resource generation. Despite the delayed implementation of the 73rd and 74th amendments, Sinha acknowledged the influential guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in decentralizing decision-making and transferring more responsibilities to elected representatives since August 2019.

Sinha underscored the increased financial resources provided to Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in Jammu and Kashmir under the Prime Minister's leadership. This, he noted, aims to foster strong and accountable self-government for better accessibility to services.

The Municipal Corporation, according to Sinha, stands as a symbol of citizens' aspirations in the 21st century, fostering cooperation and transforming paradigms in urban development.(KNS).
