Srinagar, Dec 20 (KNS): Stating that Jammu and Kashmir has been pushed to unwanted power crises, a group of concerned citizens have appealed Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha to come to the rescue of the people by addressing the genuine demands of the protesting Power Development Department employees.

A group of prominent citizens including Advocate, Irfan Hafiz Lone, Social Activist and Commentator, Ahmed Ayaz, Social Activist and Political Analyst, Iftikhar Misger and Journalist Majid Hyderi, all based in Kashmir said: “The exigency of calling the Indian Army to restore supply of a civic amenity suggests a breakdown of the civil administration. This had never happened in the last seventy years.”

Stating that the privatization of the power grids was not in the interest of the people of J&K than to talk of PDD alone, the citizens said that Raj Bhawan should shelve any such proposal till a democratically elected government comes to power.

“Let the elected government decide about any such proposals of privatization but not the public servants. The present decision of the JK administration actually negates the very idea of democracy seemingly to benefit some private players,” the citizens said.

Referring to the death of thousands of PDD employees in accidents on duty, the group said that the employees have given their blood for Jammu and Kashmir and this sacrifice of theirs cannot be ignored but needs to be respected.

The group also said that at the moment the damage to transformers in various localities was a major crises for the inhabitants as the same are not being repaired in the wake of indefinite strike by the PDD employees. “Life without electricity amid freezing cold has only put people to immense hardships.” (KNS)
