Jammu, Mar 24(KNS): Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday called for intensified efforts to eliminate Tuberculosis, urging officials and citizens to transform the 100-day campaign into a mass movement across Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking at the launch of the ‘TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan – 100 Days Campaign’ at the Convention Centre here on World Tuberculosis Day, Sinha said awareness and community participation would be key to achieving a TB-free Union Territory.
“Awareness will be our most powerful medicine. Leave no patient behind. Detecting TB is only half the battle; supporting patients through treatment is equally important,” he said.
The nationwide campaign, launched by Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda, aims to accelerate TB elimination through targeted and technology-driven interventions.
Sinha asked the health department, district administrations and citizens to ramp up testing, identify vulnerable areas and ensure door-to-door awareness, stressing that diagnosis and treatment for TB are free and recovery is possible.
“It is our resolve to transform this campaign into a people’s movement. Jammu and Kashmir must not only participate but lead this national drive,” he said.
Highlighting the role of community engagement, the Lieutenant Governor said public health is a shared responsibility and called for coordinated efforts to reach the last patient and ensure complete recovery.

Under the campaign, AI-enabled portable X-ray devices will be deployed in tribal areas, migrant camps and urban slums, while mobile Ni-Kshay vans will provide on-the-spot services. Ayushman health camps will offer chest X-rays, NAAT tests and screening for other health indicators.
Sinha also directed authorities to involve self-help groups, schools, students, NGOs and industries to expand outreach and ensure wider participation.
He emphasised strengthening support systems like the Ni-Kshay Mitra programme to provide nutritional and social assistance to TB patients.
“Every citizen must feel ownership of this campaign. No case should go undetected and no patient unsupported,” he said.
During the event, Ni-Kshay vehicles were flagged off and nutrition kits distributed. Doda and Srinagar districts were awarded for achieving TB Mukt Panchayat status.
Senior officials, including Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo and other administrative and health officers, attended the programme.(KNS)
