Law Society at KU held awareness programme on RTI

Srinagar, Oct 12 (KNS): Law Society, School of Law, University of Kashmir University in collaboration with J&K RTI Movement and SAAYA NGO organized one day awareness programme on RTI Awareness “Misuse of RTI Act”. 
 
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Beauty Banday, Head and Dean, School of Law during her welcome address emphasized upon the need of such programmes.
 
Advocate Naveed Bakhtiyar, Co-ordinator, JK RTI Movement spoke on the various aspects of RTI and said that the legislation is sometimes misused and put-forth suggestions for the effective use of RTI.
 
Dr. Mir Junaid Alam, Assistant Professor, School of Law, University of Kashmir devolved upon anecdote from RTI activism in J & K and shared some important landmark judgements of Supreme Court of India that ushered an era of future RTI movement in country for the benefit of marginalized persons of society.
Dr. Shahnaz, Senior Assistant Professor, School of Law, University of Kashmir spelt out the historical relevance of RTI and upholding it in the realm of rule of law in contemporary society.
 
Dr. Shiekh Ghulam Rasool, Chairman, JK RTI Movement addressed the gathering by sharing his personal experience.
 
He said the country is celebrating 17th Anniversary of RTI Law and still we have not achieved the objective which law mandates. “We have issues of blacklisting of RTI activists in the Country, the issues of corruption and nepotism in the offices that needs to be addressed and the rule of law should prevail,” he said.
Prof. Mohammad Hussain, Former Head & Dean, School of Law, KU, argued upon the true usage of RTI law and discussed the jurisprudential niceties in order to make the said law a living reality.
Prof. Mohammad Ayub Dar, Former Head & Dean, School of Law, University of Kashmir shared his idea of RTI movement and said knowledge is power and information is oxygen for this knowledge information which helps us to tale right decision at the right time.
 
While sharing his personal experiences with respect to the theme of the event, Dr. Nisar Ahmad Mir, Registrar, University of Kashmir who was the Chief Guest on the occasion, spoke about working of RTI in University. (KNS)
