Kupwara admin's Mission Upskilling, Self-employment Gains Currency

Kupwara November 09 (KNS): By effective use of skill training programmes, Kupwara administration has been at the forefront of skilling and upskilling of youth in current fiscal year.

To provide best possible skill training, self-employment, job placement the departments like, ITI's, Handloom, KVIB, social-welfare, JSS, I&C and ITI’s provide several training courses, sponsoring schemes to the youth to start their own enterprises.

The ITI”s across Kupwara are offering various job oriented courses, including, cutting and tailoring, plumbing, carpentry, welder, and various computer operating programmes.

According to a data available with Kashmir News Service (KNS), in year of 2022-23, the administration has imparted trainings to 3264 under youth skill development, among which 1791 youth have been provided certificate after completion of training courses, while 1044 have been provided job placement.

To encourage self-employment,  Kupwara administration is launching a mega campaign to motivate youth to earn the livelihood through sponsoring schemes for self-employment.  

Speaking to KNS, superintendent ITI Kupwara Mohsin Ali, said, " We have couple of centers here in Kupwara, wherein each center 250 students are receiving training in different subjects, including plumbering, stenography, cutting-tailoring,  welder, carpentry and computer-hardware and network maintenance."

After the completion of short-term courses we are able to provide few of the candidate’s job placement, few candidates are able to create their own employment avenue after receiving skill development training, he added.

Besides imparting technical courses, the administration has also provided government sponsored schemes to around 2000 people through various departments to come up with their own self-employment units.

General Manager, DIC Kupwara, Shabir Ahmed Wani told Kashmir News Service (KNS),  that last year 1600 persons have been sponsored through various schemes, comprising in KVIB, I&C, Agriculture, JKEDI for self-employment.

"Administration is committed to encourage the unemployed youth of the district to come forward and get benefited under the ambitious Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) by establishing income generating units", he added. (KNS)
