LG expresses grief over loss of lives in incident, says Army, SDRF teams working on war footing to rescue people, continuously monitoring situation

Jammu, July 28 (KNS): Seven died bodies have been recovered while 17 people have also been rescued so far after a cloudburst in a remote village in the Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday morning, officials said.

Officials told Kashmir News Service (KNS),  that the seven died bodies have been recovered so far while the rescue operation is going on in the area. They said that 17 people have been rescued so far among them five are critically injured.

The officials said that six residential Houses and a ration depot have also damaged while 20 people including four bakerwals.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed grief over the loss of lives due to flash floods caused by a cloud burst in Dacchan, Kishtwar.

"Saddened over loss of precious lives due to flash floods caused by cloud burst in Dacchan, Kishtwar. My thoughts are with bereaved families," the office of LG said in a tweet. "Spoke to senior authorities and district administration. Army and SDRF team working on war footing to rescue people and trace the missing persons. I am continuously monitoring the situation," it added.

Most parts of the Jammu region have been receiving heavy rains for the past few days. With the prediction of more rains till July-end, authorities in Kishtwar have asked people living along water bodies and slide-prone areas to remain vigilant.

"The meteorological department has predicted heavy rains during the upcoming days and water levels in rivers and nallas are expected to rise, which can pose a threat to the inhabitants residing near rivers, nallas, water bodies and slide-prone areas," the district administration said in an advisory issued late on Tuesday night.
