Kashmir dermatologist wins international hair restoration research award in Saudi Arabia

Srinagar-based specialist Dr Mir Shahnawaz recognised for comparative study on exosome formulations, PRP; receives SAR 10,000 cash prize

Srinagar, Oct 10 (KNS): Kashmir-based dermatologist and hair transplant surgeon Dr Mir Shahnawaz has been honoured with the REACH Research Award in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, for his research comparing an exosome-containing formulation with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in the treatment of male pattern baldness.

According to a statement issued on Saturday, Dr Shahnawaz became the first Indian recipient of the award, presented under the REACH Research Awards for Regenerative Hair Restoration and Regenerative Aesthetics.

The award was conferred by Dr Shadi Zari, President of REACH Academy, and carried a cash prize of 10,000 Saudi riyals.

Dr Shahnawaz, founder of Dermis Skin Laser & Hair Transplant Clinic in Bemina, Srinagar, was recognised for his research examining the use of an exosome-containing formulation in patients with androgenetic alopecia, commonly known as male pattern baldness.

The study compared the emerging formulation with PRP, an approach used in hair restoration treatments, to examine their clinical applications in managing hair loss.

Exosome-based formulations have attracted growing research interest in regenerative medicine, particularly for their potential role in cellular communication and tissue repair.

However, their effectiveness and long-term safety in hair restoration remain subjects of ongoing scientific investigation.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

The research undertaken by Dr Shahnawaz focused on generating comparative clinical evidence in an area where newer regenerative approaches are being evaluated alongside existing treatment options.

The statement said the award recognised his contribution to research on hair restoration and his efforts to explore evidence-based approaches in dermatology.

Dr Shahnawaz specialises in dermatology, laser treatments and hair transplantation and operates his clinic in Bemina, Srinagar.

The recognition places his research on an international platform dedicated to advances in regenerative aesthetics and hair restoration.

The statement described the award as a milestone for the Kashmir-based specialist and a recognition of the region's contribution to dermatological research.

However, details regarding the study's sample size, clinical findings, publication status and comparative treatment outcomes were not provided in the statement.

The award recognises the research contribution but does not, by itself, establish that exosome-containing formulations are more effective or safer than existing hair restoration treatments. (KNS)
