Kalmaegi Triggers Emergency in Philippines; 241 Dead or Missing

SRINAGAR, Nov 6 (KNS): The Philippines has declared a state of emergency after Typhoon Kalmaegi caused large-scale destruction across central parts of the country, leaving at least 241 people dead or missing.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr announced the decision after a review of the disaster’s impact. According to officials, 114 deaths have been confirmed, mostly from flash floods, while 127 people are still missing, many from Cebu province.

Nearly two million residents were affected, and about 560,000 were forced to leave their homes. More than 450,000 have taken shelter in temporary evacuation centres set up by local authorities.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
The emergency order enables the government to release funds quickly, coordinate relief work, and regulate essential supplies in the affected regions.

Rescue teams continue to search for missing persons and restore key services, including electricity and communication. Relief efforts are ongoing, with food, water, and medicines being distributed in evacuation camps. Roads and transport routes damaged by the storm are also being cleared to reconnect isolated areas.(KNS)
