JKPM holds meeting, Dr Mustafa Khan elected as President

Srinagar, Oct 18 (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Movement on Monday held a meeting and elected Dr Mustafa Khan as its new president.

Statement issued to Kashmir News Service reads, "the Executive Council of Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Movement (JKPM) held an important meeting on 17 October in Srinagar. The meeting was convened to deliberate on the current socio political and economic situation of Jammu and Kashmir and to restructure the hierarchy of the party to rejuvenate the working of the party at the grassroots level". 

The executive council of the party passed a resolution to appoint Dr. Mustafa Khan as its fulltime President, Mohd Hussain as Senior Vice President, Adv Syed Iqbal Tahir as Vice President, Mudassir Mir as Chief Organizer, Javed Ahmed Khan as Additional General Secretary along with many other office bearers were also nominated through the same resolution, it added.

Statement further reads that the party met under the newly nominated president and discussed political, social or economic scenario of Jammu and Kashmir and expressed dissatisfaction and regret at the shape the things have taken. At the very outset the party expressed shock and sorrow at the civilian deaths taking place across the length and breadth of Jammu and Kashmir and strongly condemned the killing of the civilians. 

The party criticized the local administration and the central government for failing to provide a sense of security, economic well being and has miserably failed in instilling any hope of good life for people in the near future, it reads.

The government has failed on all the fronts whether it is safety and security of the people, providing employment to youth especially the educated section, reviving economic development, controlling the unending price rise and the spread of drug addiction in Jammu and Kashmir, it added. (KNS)
