Srinagar, Dec 03 (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir Civil Society Forum has expressed anguish over the news reports Kashmiri Covid orphans being sold in the markets of India by a local NGO.

In a statement, issued to Kashmir News Service (KNS), chairman JKCSF, Abdul Qayoom Wani termed it as extremely heinous crime and the social shame for Kashmir Society.

Wani said as per news reports, many children who became orphans during Covid-19 pandemic were being sold outside Kashmir at 75,000 to 100,000 rupees was dumbfounding.

JKCSF said that it is a moment of introspection for the entire people of Kashmir in general and for the leaders, teachers, scholars, journalists, imams and conscious citizens of the civil society in particular.

It also condemned such act and demanded strict action against the individuals and institutions involved in the scam.

“This is high time to ponder upon the issue and the need of the hour is to launch a full and organised campaign at all levels to generate a mega reform and create awareness in the society in accordance with the teachings and guidance of religious commandments,” it said. 

JKCSF appealed to the law enforcing agencies to probe into the matter so that no orphan is sold against petty gains.

It also appealed to the Imams and Khateebs, heads of the schools, Welfare Organisations, government stakeholders to undertake the rehabilitation of the orphans and poor children on priority so that they don’t become vulnerable for exploitation. (KNS)
