"Timeline extended till December 2028 due to fund delays"

Srinagar, Oct 28 (KNS): The Jammu and Kashmir government on Tuesday informed the Assembly that an additional Rs 6,254 crore is required to complete all water supply schemes under the Jal Jeevan Mission, while the completion deadline has now been extended till December 2028.

In a written reply to a question by MLA Irfan Hafiz Lone, the government said that though all necessary steps for timely execution including administrative approvals and clearances from departments like R&B, Revenue, and Forest had been taken, the projects could not be completed within the original target date of March 2025 due to non-release of funds under the Centrally Sponsored Schemes and Union Territory Sector.

The reply stated that the Government of India, during the 2025 Budget Session, extended the JJM timeline up to December 2028 with enhanced budget allocation.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel“The Department is actively pursuing the release of balance funds, both from the Central Government and the UT Finance Department, to ensure all schemes are completed within the revised timeline,” the reply said.

It further said that there is no proposal yet for extending a pipeline from Kalantra to Shrunz, while the villages of Wagoora and Takiya Wagoora, including Najibhat, are currently receiving adequate water supply at 40 liters per capita per day. However, the department is examining the possibility of augmenting water supply levels in some outgrowth areas.

Officials added that once the required funds are released, pending work claims will be cleared, and all JJM schemes will be completed within the extended schedule.(KNS)
