Jammu, Sep 30 (KNS): J&K Bank on Tuesday supported a green mobility initiative at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, with 71 bicycles and dedicated cycle stands being provided for use on the institute campus.

J&K Bank Managing Director and CEO Amitava Chatterjee flagged off the bicycles at the institute's Jagti campus in the presence of IIM Jammu Director Prof B S Sahay and the bank's General Manager and Divisional Head (Jammu) Ashok Gupta.

Faculty members, officers, staff and students of the institute were also present on the occasion.

Speaking at the event, Chatterjee said educational institutions play an important role in shaping the habits and values of future generations.

"When students experience sustainability as part of their everyday campus life, it becomes a value they carry into the organisations and communities they go on to lead," he said.

He said the initiative was aimed not only at providing mobility infrastructure but also at promoting healthier living, environmental awareness and responsible leadership among students.

IIM Jammu Director Prof B S Sahay welcomed and felicitated Chatterjee and the bank representatives, and acknowledged the bank's support under its CSR programme.

He said the initiative would strengthen sustainable mobility infrastructure at the institute and encourage healthy and environmentally responsible practices among students.

The bicycles are intended to promote clean, healthy and non-motorised transportation for intra-campus movement. Dedicated cycle stands have also been installed to facilitate organised parking and upkeep of the bicycles.

The initiative is expected to reduce dependence on motorised vehicles for short-distance travel within the campus, promote active living, ease intra-campus congestion and contribute towards reducing the institute's carbon footprint.

The initiative also adds to the existing partnership between J&K Bank and IIM Jammu. The bank had earlier provided five e-carts to the institute to facilitate clean and convenient mobility across the campus.(KNS)
