International Day of Biological Diversity observed at Langate forest Division

Rafiabad May 23 (KNS) : The International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB) which is observed every year on May 22 to increase understanding and awareness of biodiversity issues, was celebrated jointly by J&K Forest Department, Jammu and Kashmir Biodiversity Council and SKUAST Kashmir at Medicinal Plants Resource Centre, Khamoh in Langate Forest Division. 

 
The participants besides forest officers included 45 students from SKUAST-K Wadura. The participants discussed and interchanged ideas on value of herbal biodiversity, challenges on their propagation, characterization and conservation research. Different products developed using herbal resource were exhibited on this occasion. The members of Biodiversity Management Committee and local Tribal community shared their valuable feedback on conservation and utilisation of medicinal plant resources. 
 
Considering the value of biodiversity for sustaining the balance of planet, the participants pledged to take action for finding out nature-based solutions to climate, health issues, food and water security and sustainable livelihoods so that shared future is built for all life.(KNS)
