Srinagar, Jan 10 (KNS) ; Syed Amjid Rizvi, the former Youth President of the Janata Dal (United) from B.K. Pora Chadoora of central Kashmir's Budgam, formally joined the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (JKPDP) on Saturday.
He was welcomed into the party by senior PDP leadership, including former minister and senior leader Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura, Pulwama MLA Waheed-ur-Rehman Para, Aga Muntazir Mehdi, PDP Budgam District President Mohd Yasin Bhat, Women’s Wing President Tabassum Khan, Youth Vice President Najmu Saqib, General Secretary for Youth in Central Kashmir Shahnawaz Mir, and Youth Budgam District President Mushtaq Zoohami, alongside other senior leaders and party workers.
Speaking on the occasion as per news agency KAshmir News Service (KNS) Syed Amjid Rizvi stated that his decision to join the PDP was driven by deep political and moral conviction. He expressed profound distress over the actions of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, particularly citing an incident involving the removal of a Muslim woman's hijab, which he described as an affront to dignity, religious freedom, and constitutional values.
Rizvi said he was inspired by the firm and courageous stand taken by the JKPDP under the leadership of Mehbooba Mufti, who has consistently raised her voice against such injustices and stood for the rights, honour, and freedoms of women and minorities.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelHe stated that the PDP remains one of the few political platforms that continues to advocate for the marginalised and resist majoritarian pressures.
He further added that in these testing times, as democratic space shrinks and dissent is discouraged, the leadership of Mehbooba Mufti represents moral courage, political clarity, and an unwavering commitment to people’s rights. He expressed confidence that the PDP’s vision of inclusive politics, protection of constitutional guarantees, and respect for diversity aligns with his own political beliefs.
Senior PDP leaders present at the event welcomed Syed Amjid Rizvi into the party, stating that his addition would strengthen the party’s grassroots presence in Budgam. They reiterated the party’s commitment to standing against injustice, defending minority rights, and advocating for dignity, democracy, and constitutional values. (KNS)
