Srinagar, Dec 23 (KNS): The Jammu and Kashmir police on Thursday claimed to have averted a major tragedy by detecting and destroying Improvised Explosive Device (IED) weighing 5kg planted on Newa-Srinagar road in Pulwama district.

An official told Kashmir News Service (KNS) that acting on a specific information Pulwama Police along with 50 RR & 183 BN CRPF found an IED weighing 5kg.

He said that the IED was assembled in a container planted on Newa-Srinagar road. 

The official said that, however, bomb disposal squad of police and army destroyed it on the spot, thereby averting a major tragedy. (KNS)
