Hold capacity building workshop for dist biodiversity committee members: DDC Budgam

Budgam June 03 (KNS): Chairman District Development Council Budgam Nazir Ahmad Khan has urged upon the Principal Chief Conservator Forests J&K Mohit Gera who is also the Chairperson of J&K Biodiversity Council to hold capacity building workshops for the District Biodiversity Management Committee that has been constituted early this year.

In a written communication to PCCF J&K, he said that the District Biodiversity Management committee has a great role in conservation of biodiversity but as the newly constituted committee in Budgam isn’t able to work on the ground as they have not been trained how to work in the district for protection and conservation of biodiversity.

“Kindly recall that on your request the District Biodiversity Management Committee Budgam was constituted early this year. The role of this institution is of paramount importance in view of preservation and conservation of our biodiversity,” he said.

He added that in spite of the fact that the District Biodiversity Management committee Budgam consists of highly educated members with great experience and track record, not a single training workshop has been conducted for this committee till date as such they are able to deliver at all.

“These committees should be made operational across J&K, otherwise constituting them only on papers cannot be helpful in managing and conserving our biological diversity.“

Pertinently, in most of the districts Biodoveristy Managment Committees have been constituted after being nominated by Chairman DDCs on the advise of PCCF J&K, but the committees are unaware of their role and work as they are not being trained how to implement the Biodiversity Act 2002. (KNS)
