Hearing of Engineer Rashid's plea for interim bail to take oath as MP now on 22th June

Srinagar, June 18:A Delhi court on Tuesday again set the new date of June 22th for hearing of interim bail of Engineer Rashid for taking oath as Member Parliament.

Source informed KNS that Delhi court asked NIA to state the specific date on which the Baramulla MP has to take oath.

He added that the Lawyer of Engineer Rashid pleaded about the huge mandate received by him for the interim bail.

KNS also learnt that NIA prosecutor pleaded that if the accused (Engineer Rashid) is granted (interim) bail, 'it will open the way for others facing similar accusations.'

Earlier the Delhi court had scheduled a hearing on June 18 to consider the interim bail plea of Engineer Rashid, who seeks to take oath as an MP after his recent election victory.

Rashid, who is in custody over a 2016 Jammu and Kashmir terror funding case, emerged victorious over former J-K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in the Baramulla constituency during the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, running as an Independent.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Additional Sessions Judge Chander Jit Singh had set the date after the National Investigation Agency (NIA) requested more time to respond to Rashid’s application.

On June 7, the NIA noted that the official notification for the oath ceremony of the newly elected Lok Sabha members had not been published yet. The judge indicated that if the notification is issued before the next hearing, Rashid could file a plea to expedite the matter.

Rashid, imprisoned since 2019, faces charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) related to alleged terror funding. He is currently detained in Tihar Jail.(KNS)
