Srinagar, 14 October (KNS): The final match of Handwara Police Cricket league was on Wednesday played between Brother 11 Ramhaal and Sapartan sports Handwara at Sports field Bakiaker sapartan Sports Handwara lifts the trophy.

On the occasion Director General of Police Dilbag Singh was chief guest.

The match was witnessed by thousands of spectators across the district.

I am glad to see that a very large number of people of Handwara participated in the successful conduct of this cricket tournament organized by Jammu and Kashmir Police, and especially the youth who are working for the peace and progress of the area. 

This was stated by the Director-General of Police J&K Dilbag Singh at the closing ceremony of Handwara Police Cricket League - 2020 at Sports Ground Bakihakar, Handwara this afternoon. The tournament was being organised by Jammu and Kashmir Police under Civic Action Programme.

Accompanied by ADGP CID R. R. Swain and IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar, the DGP was the chief guest on the closing ceremony of the tournament which was inaugurated by the Advisor to Governor J&K R. R. Bhatnagar and the DGP J&K on 3rd October, 2020.

DIG North Kashmir, Mohammad Suleman Choudhary, CO 7 Sector Brig. Mahipal Singh Rathore, SP Handwara Dr. G. V. Sundeep Chakravarthy, CO 92 CRPF Bn. Udhav Divyanshu, CO 87th BSF Bn. Sanjay Sharma, ASP Handwara Mashkoor Ahmad, BDC Chairpersons , Panches and Sarpanches of the area, senior civil, police officers and Handwara traders witnessed the closing ceremony of the 2020 Cricket Tournament.

I am glad to see that a large number of people participated in the success of this cricket tournament organized by Jammu and Kashmir Police, especially youth who were highly motivated and excited on the conduct of this event. It’s a step in the right direction and an indicator of positivity in the environment. He said that the participation of 32 teams in the tournament strengthens the resolve of our youth for to act as catalyst and agents of positive change. The DGP congratulated the budding players of the district in cricket and assured them to provide full support of the Jammu and Kashmir Police. He said that it was a special feeling to witness the final match with players displaying the skills of high standards. While praising the commentators, the DGP said that the commentary was of a good standard. 


The DGP also appreciated the presence of local activists for encouraging the teams during the final match. The DGP congratulated the winner and runner up teams for putting up a great match. The DGP advised the youth to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood, use their energy in positive activities, and contribute to the peace mission of Jammu and Kashmir.


While speaking on the occasion, the SP Handwara G.V Chakravarthy said that organizing this tournament was an effort of District Police to channelize the energy of youth in positive direction and build a better society by keeping our youths away from drugs and other social evils.


The DGP presented trophies to the winner and runner up teams and other individual players and also distributed cash prizes to the Man of the Series and Man of the match and runner up and winner teams. The final match was played between Spartans Cricket Club Handwara and Brothers' Eleven Ramhal in which Spartans Cricket Club emerged as winners of the tournament.


Presently sporting competitions are going on in Budgam, Ganderbal and Bandipora. 

Police Headquarters has chalked out a plan to create a Kashmir Eleven which will be assisted to participate at national level as well.(KNS)
