Masoodi asks administration to get the loss assessed and expedite relief work

Anantnag 14 May (KNS): MP Anantnag and JKNC lead has demanded immediate steps to compensate the farmers and fruit growers of Dachnipora, Anantnag and Nanibugh and other villages of Kulgam for the huge loss they suffered as a result of an unprecedented hailstorm.

In a statement issued to Kashmir News Service (KNS), it is stated that a severe hailstorm on Wednesday hit large areas of Dachnipora causing colossal damage to the orchards and destroying almost the entire fruit crop, as well as, standing crops in Liver, Kathsoo, Budroo, Srigufwara, Khiram, Nowshera, Hetgam, Mehind, Sirhama, Salia and other areas. The unprecedented hailstorm has resulted in huge loss to the fruit growers and farmers of the affected areas, the statement adds.

It is stated that a few days back zazerpora, Paniwah, Kinepora, Super, Nanibugh, Bugam, Awgam, Ganwsargam Kadder, Dadekoot and Khee villages of Kulgam also experienced heavy hailstorm causing damage to apple and other fruit crop and depriving the fruit growing the only source of livelihood.

MP Anantnag, Hasnain Masoodi, it is stated, has asked the administration to immediately depute teams head by a senior revenue officer, with officers from agriculture, horticulture and disaster management departments as its part, to the hailstorm hit areas,  to assess the losses and sanction adequate compensation to the affected fruit growers and farmers.

It is stated that Masoodi spoke to District Development Commissioners Anantnag and Kulgam to stress the need to speed up damage assessment, relief and rehabilitation work. Both the District Development Commissioners assured prompt action and informed that necessary exercise had been initiated.

Masoodi also spoke to Chief Secretary, apprising him of the gravity of the situation that was not less than a disaster and requesting to exhort the administration to expedite the relief and rehabilitation work.(KNS)
