Srinagar, June 25 (KNS): A gunfight broke out between militants and security forces in South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Friday afternoon.

An official told Kashmir News Service (KNS) that earlier a joint team of forces laid a cordon and search operation in Hajipira area of Shopian.

He said that as the forces zeroed in on the suspected spot, hiding militants fired upon them, which was retaliated to, triggering an encounter.

The official said that the exchange of fire was going on when the reports last came in. (KNS)
