JAMMU, Mar 31(KNS) : Minister for Education, Sakeena Itoo, on Tuesday stated that the government was making concerted efforts to bolster the educational ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir, with a special focus on establishing facilities in government schools.
Replying to a question by Legislator Khursheed Ahmad Sheikh in the Legislative Assembly regarding the introduction of new subjects, Itoo informed the House that components related to general studies, computer education, digital literacy, and vocational skill-based education have been introduced at different schooling levels in a phased manner.
She said Computer Science, Information Practices, and IT have been introduced as separate subjects at the higher secondary level, while vocational and skill-based education with 15 different trades have been implemented in high and higher secondary schools in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Itoo further noted that the integration of 21st-century skills, as articulated in the National Curriculum Framework for School Education 2023 and envisioned in NEP 2020, was being implemented in a phased manner, with the revised curriculum emphasizing critical thinking, creativity, communication, collaboration, digital literacy, problem-solving, and experiential learning.
She stated that teachers were being oriented and trained to integrate these competencies into classroom practices, ensuring the acquisition of relevant skills and learning outcomes. (KNS)
