Govt Blocks 25 OTT Platforms Over Obscene, Pornographic Content

New Delhi, July 25 (KNS): The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MIB) has ordered the blocking of 25 OTT platforms, along with 26 websites and 14 apps, for streaming obscene, vulgar, and in many cases, pornographic content.

The action, taken in consultation with the Home Ministry, Women and Child Development Ministry, MeitY, and legal experts, was carried out under the IT Act, 2000 and IT Rules, 2021. Notifications were issued to Google, Apple, and other intermediaries to disable access to these platforms.

The blocked platforms include popular names such as Ullu, ALTT, Mojflix, HotX VIP, and NeonX VIP, among others. Many of these services were found to stream sexually explicit scenes involving nudity, often without any storyline, and in inappropriate contexts, including family relationships.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Officials said the content violated multiple Indian laws, including Section 67 of the IT Act, Section 292 of the IPC, and the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986.

The action follows several public complaints, references from the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights, and repeated violations by the platforms despite warnings. Authorities also noted that some platforms had previously removed objectionable content but later re-uploaded it on new domains to evade scrutiny.(KNS)
