Srinagar January 2:(KNS) Apni Party senior leader and former minister Mohammad Dilawar Mir on Saturday demanded a judicial inquiry in the Hokersar-Srinagar encounter so that the truth about the whole operation is divulged in the public.

In a statement issued to Kashmir News Service (KNS), Mir expressed deep concern over the family inputs of three slain youth that have put a big question mark on the veracity of Hokersar encounter. He demanded that the Lt. Governor led government should go for a thorough and impartial verification of credentials of the three slain youth while taking into consideration the testimonials given by their respective families.

“The version of families of slain trio is contradictory to what the army and the police claim about the Hokersar encounter. Government should constitute a time bound judicial enquiry into the matter and in the meanwhile handover the bodies to their kith and kin for their last rites,” Mir remarked.

He said that the circumstances in which these killings took place need to be probed in view of the concerns among the public with regard to genuineness of the encounter. “The Amshipora-Shopian encounter is still fresh in the minds of people where the family claims of three labourers from Rajouri were substantiated by the Army’s court of inquiry. So the government should not shy away from its responsibility of holding an impartial probe in the Hokersar encounter,” Mir added.

He said that the government must fulfill its commitment for zero tolerance for human rights in Jammu and Kashmir for the larger interests of peace and prosperity in the region.(KNS)
