Fresh Snowfall Disrupts Flight Operations At Srinagar Airport, Shuts National Highway

Srinagar, Jan 13 (KNS): The Srinagar international Airport Authority of Friday informed that all flights of all airlines have been cancelled following continuous low visibility and snowfall since morning.

The officials told the Kashmir News Service (KNS), that the air traffic to and from Kashmir was affected since 10: 00AM due to the bad weather in the wake of snowfall in Kashmir and low visibility in the valley. The operations would resume after the visibility improved, they said.

"Snowfall and poor visibility across Kashmir forced cancellation of 25 out of the 34 scheduled flights from Srinagar International Airport," they added.

The flight cancellations led to chaotic scenes at the airport as hundreds of passengers were left stranded.

Meanwhile, the inclement weather has resulted in the closure of the Srinagar-Jammu national highway, the officials said, adding that the highway was closed for traffic due to landslides in Mehar area of Ramban district and slippery conditions of the road.

They said road clearance operations are going on but continuous snow and rain are making the job difficult.

Notably, the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir experienced moderate to heavy snow, many areas in the plains received light to moderate snow.(KNS)
