Fresh Snowfall Delayed Flight Operations At Srinagar Airport, Shuts National Highway

Srinagar, Jan 20 (KNS): The Srinagar international Airport Authority of Friday informed that several flights of all airlines have been delayed in the early morning following continuous low visibility and inclament weather conditions.


A Meteorological official said that widespread light to moderate rain and snow is likely to occur in J&K during the next 24 hours in J&K

An official told the Kashmir News Service (KNS), that the air traffic to and from Kashmir was affected early morning due to the bad weather in the wake of snowfall in Kashmir and low visibility in the valley. He however said that flight operations were resume after the visibility improved, they said.

Meanwhile, the inclement weather has resulted in the closure of the Srinagar-Jammu national highway, the officials said, adding that the highway was closed for traffic due to shooting stones and snowfall between Ramban and Banihal. They said road clearance operations are going on but continuous rain are making the job difficult.

Meanwhile the roads leading to the different border areas of Kashmir have been also closed due to the fresh snowfall. The roads leading to the border areas including Karnah, Machil, Keran and Gurez were closed by the respective administrations after fresh snowfall.

Notably, the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir experienced light to moderate to snow, many areas in the plains received light to moderate snow.(KNS)
