Four Militants killed in Sidhra Gunfight

Srinagar, Dec 28 (KNS): At least four militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in a "chance encounter" in Sidhra bypass area along the Jammu-Srinagar national highway on Wednesday, officials said here.


An official told the Kashmir News Service (KNS), that a gunfight broke out this morning amid intense fog near Tawi bridge in the Sidhra bypass area along the Jammu-Srinagar national highway.

He said that the militants were moving towards Kashmir in a truck when security forces followed and stopped the vehicle near Sidhra checkpoint. "When the police started searching the truck, militants opened heavy fire from the inside," he said.

''A suspicious movement of a truck that was moving towards Kashmir was observed. It was followed and stopped near Sidhra check point but its driver escaped on the pretext of attending the call of nature,'' the offical said.

The official said that seven AK-47 rifles, one M4 rifle, and three pistols along with other ammunition were recovered from the slain militants while the identity and the group affiliation of the slain militants were not known immediately.

Meanwhile a case under relevant sections of laws has been registered while the futher investigation is going on.(KNS).
