Gurez, 06 June (KNS) : Forest Range Gurez celebrated world environment day under the theme ''only one earth''. Forest Range Gurez in collaboration with the civil administration, army , Grand hills restaurant, Himaliyan bag packers and tourism department, a mega cleanliness and plantation drive was organised on Monday on ocassion of world environment week.

As per the statement issued to Kashmir News Service (KNS), the cleanliness drive was flagged off from dawer market by SDM Gurez Dr Mudasir Wani in presence of Faisal Ali Dar (Padma shri awardee), SDPO Gurez  Dr Bashir Ahmad, Range Officer Gurez Tahir zullah Mir , Principal BHSS Gurez Ab Majeed and Block Forest Officer Headquarter Dawer Ajaz ahmad khan.

The event witnessed huge participation of more than 200 locals including officials and students from different schools. The Rally culminated at the Dak Bungalow where saplings were distributed to the school children and saplings were planted in situ by the dignitaries.

    The participants and the youth raised slogans including "Go Green Gurez, Say No the polythene and Think Green breath Green.

   The main aim of the drive was to spread awareness and to make Gurez a plastic free zone. The participants were also educated about waste management and actions for conservation of nature.

  The event gave a strong message to the world that despite being remote valley facing multiple challenges, hardships and lack of proper infrastructure, inhabitants of Gurez are united in conserving and developing this beautiful valley into a thriving ecotourism destination.(KNS)
