Srinagar, August 26 (KNS): Hours after Congress stalwart Ghulam Nabi Azad resigned from the party, a group of five senior leaders which includes former minsters also resigned.
The statement issued by the leaders to Kashmir News Service (KNS), reads, "Ex- Ministers of the dissolved assembly of Jammu and Kashmir here by resign from all the positions holding in the Congress party & also resign from the primary membership of the party in support of Ghulam Nabi Azad."
They are G.M.Saroori (Ex MLA/ Cabinet Minister, Ex Vice President J&K PCC,
Haji Abdul Rashid (Ex MLA, MOS/ Vice President J&K PCC till resign, Mohd Amin Bhat (Ex MLA/Ex MLC) Ex- State Youth President, Gulzar Ahmad Wani (Ex MLA) Distt President Anantnag till resign and Choudhary Mohd Akram (EX MLA) & Chairman J&K ST cell till resign.
Addressing Party President Sonia Gandhi, he said that over the years as a member of the Congress Party, it has been my sincere endeavour to work for the betterment of my State - Jammu & Kashmir. I feel that in the prevailing circumstances, Congress Party has lost its momentum in contributing towards the futureof my State. Keeping in view the turmoil that the State of J&K has witnessed over the past decades, the people require a decisive leader like Jb.
"Ghulam Nabi Azad to guide them towards a better future. I feel that the Congress Party has not been able to play the role that is expected of it. I firmly believe that there is a growing divergence between my views and the views ofthose at the helm of the Party affairs. In light of the same, I feel that the best course of action would be for me to part ways with your Party. Accordingly, I am tendering my resignation from the primary membership of the Indian National Congress," he said.(KNS)
