Edu depts ‘Mission Rationalisation’ of teachers not a cakewalk

Srinagar, June 22 (KNS): The initiative to rationalize the staff in the twin cities of Jammu and Kashmir won't be a cake walk for the department as most of the staff deployed in city schools belong to powerful men of UT.

The department has started collecting the data about the teachers, and students enrolled in different schools of Srinagar and Jammu.

According to sources, it was in the agenda of GC Murmu, however he was not getting the right man to break the political- bureaucratic nexus of many years for deploying teachers in city schools where pupil ratio is almost negligible.

Sources added that many days after, Dr Asghar Hassan Samoon was given charge of school education department, J&K Lieutenant Governor, GC Murmu directed him to ensure optimum teacher-student ratio in the government schools in order to improve quality of the education particularly at elementary level.

" I believe Governor has been told by someone about the reputation of Dr Samoon- who is know for orthodox style of working- he means business and welfare of public," he told KNS.

Later Principal Secretary School Education, Asgar Samoon in an official communication, instructed Director School Education of Kashmir and Jammu to provide details about the number of schools in the twin cities.

"“The details of the number of students enrolled in each schools, number of teachers in each school with tenure should also be submitted to the administrative department,” the document reads.

The education department has been facing criticism for posting influential teachers in the city schools. Most of the teachers have not been shifted from these schools from 15 years.

The transfer policy mandates that the teachers should be transferred after completion of two to three years in a school.

Notably, the department has already relieved around 200 teachers who were assigned clerical work and deputed them back to the schools.

Dr Samoon has won the confidence of teachers community by issuing promotion orders, regularisation of thousands of teachers, sources told KNS.

" LG has placed right man for the right job. He has no hidden agenda. He knows how to get maximum work done in department and will always fight for welfare of employees," sources added. (KNS)
