Gurez, Mar 28 (KNS) : In a major initiative to spread awareness about road safety, the Directorate of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) on Saturday organised a large-scale awareness programme in the Sports Zone of Bandipora district, highlighted by a massive cycle rally that saw enthusiastic participation from students and teaching staff.
The event, held under the supervision of DYSS Director General Anuradha Gupta and the guidance of District Youth Services and Sports Officer Bandipora, aimed to instil a sense of responsibility among youth towards safe road behaviour and strict adherence to the Road Safety Act.
The centrepiece of the programme was a cycle rally that started from Habak Khatoon Sumoo Stand and concluded at Government Degree College Gurez. Organised in collaboration with the Zonal Education Office (ZEO) Gurez, the rally witnessed a large turnout of students and staff who pedalled through the town carrying slogans on road safety.

The event was attended by the Station House Officer (SHO) Gurez and the Principal of BHSS Dawar as guests of honour. Addressing the gathering, the dignitaries lauded the efforts of the DYSS and ZEO, emphasising the importance of such grassroots-level initiatives in reducing road accidents and fostering a safety culture among the younger generation.
The programme concluded with a solemn pledge where participants vowed to follow traffic rules and act as road safety ambassadors in their families and neighbourhoods.
The initiative reflects a unified effort to make Gurez’s roads safer and its citizens more conscious of traffic regulations, officials said. (KNS)
