Srinagar, Feb 12 (KNS): In no less than a miracle and recreation of 3 Idiots movie scene, doctors from Kralpora sub-district hospital assisted paramedical staff of a health centre in remote Keran village of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district to deliver baby over a WhatsApp call.

Officials told Kashmir News Service (KNS) a woman from Mandian village of Keran complained of labor pain and was taken to a nearby Primary Health Centre, where she was asked to visit SDH Kupwara.

They said, however, due to heavy snowfall in the area for past several days, the road leading to Kupwara remains closed.

“As this was not possible to take the woman to Kupwara due to road closure, paramedical staff at PHC Keran took up the matter with BMO Kralpora, who contacted his senior officials and despite hectic efforts to arrange a chopper service to take her to Kupwara. But due to heavy snowfall, the chopper could not be arranged and there was no left option for the paramedics at the PHC but help the woman deliver baby on their own,” he said.

The official said as BMO Kralpora did not see any hope to shift the patient from Keran to Kupwara, he asked the paramedics at PHC Keran to come on WhatsApp video call, following which he called SDH Kupwara on a DTS App.

“After the call was arranged, gynaecologist posted at SDH Kupwara assisted the paramedics  at PHC Keran to deliver the baby of the woman. The paramedics followed the procedure and helped the woman deliver a healthy baby without any surgery procedure, which is no less than a miracle,” he said.

Meanwhile, BMO Kralpora Dr Shafiq Mir told KNS that since the road was closed and there was no option to shift the patient from Keran, their priority was to save the patient.

He said they prefer to conduct such procedures at SDH Kupwara, however, in this case there no no such option available so they preferred to conduct the procedure over a WhatsApp video call and assist the paramedics posted at PHC Keran.

He said the procedure was successful and by the grace of Allah both baby and the mother are safe and healthy. (KNS)
