DHSK monitors immunization, visits several hospitals across Kashmir

 Srinagar, February 27: Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Pandurang K Pole along with Director Health Services Kashmir, Dr Mushtaq Ahmad Rather on Sunday kick-started the pulse polio immunization program at JLNM Hospital.

 
The pulse polio immunization is being held across J&K UT wherein children below the age of 5 years will be administered the additional dose of the oral polio vaccine.
 
The Divisional Commissioner Kashmir was the chief guest on the occasion while Director Health Services Kashmir was the guest of honour.
 
While addressing media persons, the director said there is a target of 11 lakh children from 0-5 who will be given the pulse polio drops across Kashmir. At JLNM hospital the director personally administered polio shots to children.
 
For the successful pulse polio immunization program, he said 22,000 health care workers have been deployed across pulse polio booths across all districts.
 
The director said on the first day, the immunization was held in polio booths while in the next two days health workers will visit door to door to cover left out children.
 
On the occasion, Dr Mushtaq said that schools will reopen as announced already and the government was prepared for it at all levels.
 
“We are ready for the opening of the schools. SOPs are to be followed from home to reaching school. SOPs should be followed in school buses. At the school entrance, there would be thermal scanning,” he said.
 
“Use of sanitizers and cleanliness will be there. There would be random testing. If any student tests positive they will be properly isolated,” he said.
 
Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Srinagar, Dr Jameel Mir, doctors, paramedical staff besides officers and officials of the health department were present on the occasion.
 
Later, the director along with Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Muhammad Aijaz inaugurated plus polio vaccination drive at Gousia Hospital Khanyar in presence of the hospital’s Medical Superintendent Dr Tariq.
 
On the occasion, DC Srinagar emphasized on the importance of the drive and appealed to people to dedicate themselves in making the country polio-free.
 
Later on, the director also visited UPHC Lal Bazar where he interacted with the local population who put forward their demands for the up-gradation of health care services. Dr Mushtaq gave them a patient hearing and assured them that all the genuine issues will be sorted out in due course of time.
 
He instructed all doctors on the occasion to come up to the expectations of the public and contribute to their best abilities to alleviate the problems of patients.
 
He praised his team of doctors and health care workers for the good work they have been doing in testing times. The others who participated include CMO, Dy. CMO, DHO, DIO, ZMOs and other medical and paramedical staff.
 
Later, the director visited south Kashmir’s Anantnag district and visited various pulse polio booths across the district. One such function was held at Bijbehara hospital where the director personally administered polio shots to children. For the whole day, the director was monitoring the immunization drive.
 
Similarly, IPPI was inaugurated under the aegis of DHSK at all hospitals across Kashmir and the children were given the immunization. Hospitals were also decorated with balloons and flowers that welcomed the children.(KNS)
