Says it seems artificial normalcy is being created in Kashmir

Srinagar, Apr 28 (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir National Conference vice-president Omar Abdullah on Thursday said that disallowing Shab-e-Qadr and Jumat-ul-Wida prayers at Jamia Masjid Srinagar is the evidence of abnormal situation in the Kashmir Valley.

Talking to reporters on sidelines of a function, Omar said that it was unfortunate that Shab-e-Qadr and Jumat-ul-Wida prayers have been disallowed at Jamia Masjid even when they claim situation is normal in Jammu and Kashmir.

"If situation is normal here, then why disallow prayers at Jamia Masjid. It feels like there is artificially normalcy or a wave of normalcy is being sent to the rest of the country," he added.

He also said that normalcy cannot come only through tourism and the real normalcy is to provide normal life to the people.

On being asked about controversy of making Hindi as India's national language, Omar said that India is too diverse a country to have a national language and the idea of India is that it gives space to everybody.

"If Indian currency note gives space to all languages, then it is understood that we are more than just one language, culture and religion," he said.

On being asked about if accession with India was a mistake, Omar said that nobody could predict how things will play out and that accession was not a mistake as he does not believe India has irrevocably adopted this path but it is a matter of concern.

"How do you think we should feel when houses of Muslims are demolished by bulldozers and TV anchors say there will be shortage of bulldozers soon and we will have to import more of them. People who we expect to be impartial, take a partial position, which is unfortunate," he added. (KNS)
