Director Horticulture Kashmir along with GOI Team visits Shopian to setup Post Entry Quarantine Center facility 

 

Srinagar, Jan 28 (KNS): Director Horticulture Kashmir  Ajaz Ahmad Bhat along with a  high level team of National Seed Corporation (NSC) and Scientists from SKUAST-K-Shalimar & Central Institute of Temperate Horticulture (CITH) Srinagar visited Advanced Center for Horticulture Development(ACHD)  Zainpora Shopian regarding the setting up of Post-Entry Quarantine (PEQ) facility for import of quality planting material/seeds from Advanced Countries.  
  
The Department of Horticulture intends to establish high density orchards of various temperate fruit crops particularly Apple, Pear, Peaches etc for which there is a huge requirement of genuine and quality planting material.
The project objectives are to set up the facility for PEQ purposes besides multiplication and propagation of exotic quality planting material over an area of 22 hectare (440 kanals) at ACHD Zainapora, Shopian. 
Director Horticulture informed that this will be a unique facility in the temperate regions of the country which will facilitate evaluation and further multiplication programme of the quality planting material.  
  "The team took stock of the ground situation for assessing the requirements of infrastructure viz-a-viz availability of irrigation facilities, scope for ground water potential, installation of protected cultivation units and other associated laboratory facilities on the site. All the members of visiting team took active part during the discussion on the site and it was found congenial to set up PEQ facility for evaluation and multiplication of exotic fruit plants for establishment of Hi-tech orchards on ground,"  statement issued to KNS reads.(KNS)
