Srinagar February 12:(KNS) Department have been successful in achieving the ambitious target of providing the farmers with round the year availability of seedlings of different vegetable (traditional/exotic) crops. Due to the special agro climatic conditions of the region vegetable sector has a tremendous potential.

The introduction of new dimensions ( agri-entrepreneurship, urban vegetable cultivation, growing popularity of vegetable cultivation among urban population, availability of diverse marketing models) are playing a big role in the economic viability and ecological sustainability of the agriculture sector. These views were expressed by Director Agriculture Kashmir Chowdhary Mohammad Iqbal during his visit to the Kitchen Garden premises Lalmandi, Srinagar and similar other installations in different districts, to review the preparations for the upcoming
valley wide seedling distribution drive.

Director Agriculture took stock of the preparations for the distribution of seedlings among the farmers and agriculture entrepreneurs. He visited different seedling production infrastructure in various districts of the region and talked to the technical experts and concerned officers to ensure that all the preparations for the valley wide vegetable seedling distribution drive are completed well in time.

Director Agriculture said that the valley wide seedling distribution will commence from the second fortnight of this month in a phased manner. He said in addition to the commercial vegetable cultivation, the vegetable enterprise is being adopted by the kitchen garden lovers, backyard farmers throughout the region and has therefore raised the demand for vegetable seedlings manifold.

Director Agriculture asked the concerned officers and other technical experts to
work in close coordination so that the seedling distribution drive could be made
