DG Horticulture visits Shopian to inspect orchards affected by pests

Srinagar September 21:(KNS) Director General Horticulture Kashmir, Ajaz Ahmad Bhat (JKAS) on Tuesday visited various areas of district Shopian regarding the incidence of insect pest leaf miner at villages Babarpora, Amnura and adjacent villages of Zainpora Shopian. He was accompanied by Associate Director Extension, SKUAST-Kashmir Chief Horticulture Officer Shopian, Scientist from KVK, Balpora Shopian besides

other field functionaries of the Department. 

Director General inspected the affected orchards and took stock of the severity of the pest. He advised the farmers to utilize different techniques besides chemical control like orchard sanitation, use of pheromones etc. for controlling the pest. Director General emphasized on the orchardists to have a close liaison with the department for better management of the pest. He further added that the advisory for the control of the insect will be shared by the department with the farmers from time to time. DG Horticulture also hoped that

with the proper pest management and cooperation of the orchardists the said pest will be completely eradicated.

Moreover, spraying of infested orchards should be ensured in and around the infested area immediately with combo product (Chloropyriphos 50% +Cypermethrin 5%) @ 100ml/100 litre of water.(KNS)
