DG Horticulture visits Baramulla areas to inspect orchards damaged by insects

 Srinagar April 07:(KNS)  Director General Horticulture Kashmir, Ajaz Ahmad Bhat (JKAS) on Thursday visited various areas of district Baramulla in the back draw of reports of widespread attack of an insect damaging the inflorescence in apple orchards. He was accompanied by a team of scientists form SKUAST, Kashmir and other officer of the department. 

 
The team inspected the affected orchards and took stock of the severity of the pest. It was found that only those orchards witnessed the attack where the farmers had skipped the HMO spray. Speaking on the occasion DG Horticulture advised the orchardists to follow the ‘Spray Schedule 2022’ in consultation with the field functionaries of the department or scientist from KVK. 
 
He also advised the farmers to never miss any spray recommended by the department especially HMO. He emphasized on the orchardists to have a close liaison with the department for better management of the pest. He further added that the advisory for the control of the insect will be shared by the department with the farmers from time to time. DG Horticulture also hoped that with the proper pest management and cooperation of the orchardists the said pest will be controlled.
 
Moreover, the affected areas were advised to spray one of the following insecticides at 60% petal.
Chlorpyriphos 20EC @100 ml/100 liter of water. Or Quinalphos 25EC @100ml/100 litre of water Or Chlorpyriphos 50% + Cypermethrin 5% @ 125ml/100 litre of water. (KNS)
