Bandipora May 26 (KNS): Even after passing more than 12 years, the ambitious water supply scheme (WSS) in Ashtangoo village of Bandipora district is yet to be completed, forcing people to fetch water from nearby streams as there is no proper water supply in the area.

Locals told Kashmir News Service (KNS) that the construction of water supply scheme was started in 2010 by Jal Shakti division Bandipora but the scheme is yet to be completed due to which people are facing difficulties.

They said that even after spending crores of funds on the scheme, it has failed to provide drinking water to the residents and they are being forced to consume contaminated water directly from a nearby canal as the village doesn’t have any provision of portable water.

Locals said the scheme was to benefit around 1000 households of the villages including Badyari, Ashtangoo, Kanbathi and Ashtangoo Ghat but the villagers have been left high and dry as scheme is yet to be completed, despite the passing of more than 10 years.

When contacted executive engineer Jal Shakti division Bandipora, he said that the scheme is now under Jal Jevan Mission (JJM) and within three to four months, it will be made.

He said that due to deficiency of funds some work on the scheme was incomplete and they were trying to complete the work as soon as possible. (KNS)
